"４人の友人たち"

アシュレイは新しいお家の外階段にすわっていて、悲しそうに見えました。アシュレイはここ、スプリングヴィル・ヴァレイに引っ越してきたばかり。まわりに住んでいるおんなの子はだれ一人知りません。アシュレイには兄弟もいませんでした。

アシュレイは３人のおんなの子が、アシュレイの家の前を通りながら、笑ったりおしゃべりしているのを見かけました。アシュレイは、３人のことを知っていたらよかったのに、と思いました。アシュレイはひとりぼっちでした。前のお家にいた時は、ミッシェルとルイスといつも遊んでいました。今はいっしょに遊ぶ人がだれもいません。

その時、お母さんがやってきて、アシュレイのとなりにすわりました。

「どうして自転車に乗らないの」と、お母さんが聞きました。

アシュレイはうなずくと、ガレージから自転車を出してきました。家の回りの小道をゆっくりとこいでいきます。すると、さっき見た３人のおんなの子たちとすれちがいました。

「ハイ！」とひとりの子がはずかしそうに言いました。「わたしはエリザベス。２人はお友達のジェラルディンとミーガンよ。あなたの名前はなんというの？」

「アシュレイよ」

「ミーガンのお庭にいらっしゃいよ。わたしたち、そこでピクニックをするの」と、エリザベスは言いました。

「いっしょに行くわ」と、アシュレイはやさしく答えました。

４人の少女たちはミーガンのお庭でピクニックをして、楽しい時を過ごしました。その後、４人は大の親友になりました。


Ashley sat on the doorstep of her new house looking sad. She had just moved into Springville Valley and didn't know any other girls in that area. Ashley didn't have any brothers or sisters. Suddenly, she saw three girls laughing and chatting as they walked pass her house. Ashley wished she knew that. She was so lonely. At her old house, she used to play with Michelle and Louise. Now, she didn't have anyone to play with. Just then, her mother came and sat down next to her. "Why don't you ride your bicycle?" she asked Ashley. Ashley nodded and went to get her bicycle from the garage. She cycled slowly along the path outside her house. The three girls whom she had seen earlier walked pass again. "Hi," one of them said shyly. "My name is Elizabeth. These are my friends, Geraldine and Megan. What's your name?" Elizabeth asked. "Ashley," Ashley replied. "Why don't you come with us to Megan's garden. We can have a picnic there." Elizabeth offered. "Okay," Ashley replied softly. The f! ! our girls had a great time picnicking in Megan's garden. The four of them became the best of friends. 


