"ヘーゼルがもらったプレゼント"

「お母さん、ねこをかってもいい？」

ヘーゼルはこれまで何回も、お母さんにお願いしています。でもお母さんの答えはいつも、

「いつかね」でした。

ヘーゼルはペットがほしくてたまりません。だって、いっしょに遊んでくれる兄弟がいないのですから。

９才のおたんじょう日の日、ヘーゼルが朝、起きると、パンケーキの匂いがしてきました。

「サプライズ！」とお父さんとお母さんがさけびました。ヘーゼルはとてもしあわせでした。朝食の後、お父さんとお母さんは横に穴のあいた大きな箱を持ってきました。ヘーゼルは箱を開けてみました。中のプレゼントを見たとたん、ヘーゼルは息をのみました。

「子ねこちゃん！」ヘーゼルはさけびました。そうしてお父さんとお母さんにギュッとだきつきました。ヘーゼルは子ねこにフローリィという名前をつけました。ヘーゼルはもうひとりぼっちではありません。いつもフローリィと遊んでいるんですもの！


"Mum, can I have a cat?" Hazel often asked her mother. Hazel's mother always replied, "Someday, Hazel". Hazel longed for a pet to play with as she had no brothers or sisters. On the morning of her ninth birthday, Hazel woke up to the smell of pancakes. "Surprise!" her parents shouted. Hazel was very happy. After breakfast, Hazel's parents brought her a big box with a hole at the side. Hazel opened the box. She gasped when she saw her present. "A kitten!" she squealed. She gave each of her parents a big bear hug. Hazel named the kitten, Florie. Hazel was no longer lonely because she had Florie to play with. 


