In the village called Bugville, there lived a family of ladybugs. They were the Lanes. Mr. and Mrs. lane had a daughter named Lizzy. Lizzy was smart and friendly and charming but she had a problem: she was VERY lazy! No one could force her to do her omework and chores. Her parents tried begging, she shrugged it off. They tried to ground her, it seemed like she didn't care. They tried taking away her CD's and books but she still got by. Mr. Lane was very frustrated. Mrs. Lane was very worried. They couldn't do anything to make Lizzy do her responsiblities.

Lizzy went on a leaf she called Lala. Lala was a sort of magical leaf who knew Lizzy's problems. Lala said, "Lizzy, I think you should start doing what you're supposed to do." Lizzy started to listen to what Lala was saying. "You are almost 12 and you know that by thirteen, you are on your own", continued Lala. In ladybug life, parents should leave their children at 13 so they can find their own house and food. At the rate Lizzy was going, it seemed like she would end up as a crushed ladybug. She didn't know how to make a home or even find food. She couldn't even make her own bed!

Lizzy thought about what Lala said. The more she thought of it, the worse she felt. She realized that she wasn't helping anyone by being lazy. She knew her parents were suffering so much because they wanted the best for her. Little by little she started to cry. "Oh Lala! I've messed up everything! My grades are slipping. My room might as well be a junk yard. My parents are miserable. Maybe I should! just run away!!", she wailed Lizzy was crying a river now. "Lizzy, you know that's not the right thing to do! Just start being responsible!", Lala adviced,

A few months later, Lizzy became 1st honor. Her room was as fresh as a daisy! All her chores were done without being told! Whenever she had a babysitting job, she arrived 15 minutes early. One night, Lizzy wrote in her diary:

Dear Loli, (That's the name of her diary)
I didn't know that being responsible is this fun. It's much better than being lazy. My parents are so proud of me. My friends and teachers tell me how much I have improved. I also fell great because I get the job done and I feel that whenever I finish something, it's already and achievement, no matter how big or small. It can be like fixing my bed by myself or getting a good grade. Lesson: Be reponsible and do your duties!

Love,
Lizzy the (former) Lazy Ladybug
