Pippa was a blue and red parrot. She was a very eager bird and wanted to learn to fly right away.
Unfortunately, birds can only learn how to fly at the age of two and Pippa was only 11 months old,
said Ms. Glider, Pippa's teacher.
"I want to learn now!" Pippa said.
"I know you do, Pippa, but I'm afraid
that your bones aren't strong enough and your feathers aren't long enough for you to fly," Ms. Glider said.
Pippa sighed and looked out of the hole in the try where Ms. Glider taught school.
She saw her two year old brother, Julio , flying with his friends.
" But Ms. Glider!" Pippa complained. "It's not fair! Julio gets to fly and I don't get to,"said Pippa.
"Pippa, Julio's wings are much stronger
and longer than yours," Ms.Glider said.
"But what if my wings were longer and stronger, but I'm still not
two years old. Will I be able to fly?" asked Pippa.
"Well, that has never happened to our breed of bird, but
I've heard of an eagle who flew at the age of one,"Ms. Glider admitted. "But, if you want to fly, you'll
have to work hard and do what I tell you,"Ms. Glider said.
"I will!" Pippa said.
After school that day, Pippa walked to the park at the bottom of her school. Pippa started doing excercises.
She stretched her wings, ran around the biggest oak tree in the forest three times.
"Pippa?" Pippa's best
friend Janie asked. "Are you trying to beat Julio at something again?"
"No, Janie,"Pippa said. I'm trying to
be big and healthy so that Ill have stronger bones and longer feather,"Pippa replied.
"But Pippa, you heard
what Ms. Glider said,"Janie said. "You can only fly when you turn two and your only 11 months old," Janie
said.
"I know, Janie but if I work really hard, I'm sure I'll be able to fly in no time!" Pippa said.
In the next few days, Pippa, who was a usually an unactive and a bird that didn't eat much, asked questions
in class every 5 minutes, finished her whole bowl of worms and asked for second!
"Are you allright, Pippa
dear?" asked her mother feeling Pippa's forhead.
"I'm alright Mama," Pippa replied."I'm just need to work
really hard to learn how to fly,".
Pippa's parents looked at each other and sighed.
"I know what they are
thinking," Pippa thought."They think that a little bird like me can't possibly learn how to fly. I'll show
them!"
After one month, it was Pippa's birthday. They had her birthday in the leaves of her tree. They had a lot of
fun. They played games, ate worm cake and sang Happy Bird Day.
Then, while they were playing tag, Tyler,
Pippa's classmate, chased Pippa. Pippa ran screaming and ran off the leaves of the tree!
Pippa screamed and
looked at her wings, she had noticed that the feather had grown longer and her bones looked stronger. Pippa
had no time to think so she quickly flapped her wings as much as she could and just as she was about to hit
the ground, she started to fly.
"I'm flying!" Pippa exclaimed.
Julio quickly flew down and carried Pippa back
to the nest.
"Don't ever do that again!" Ms. Glider exclaimed.
"Ok." Pippa said. "I'm just glad that I know
now what it feels like to fly,"she said.
"Pippa, now I have seen everything," Ms. Glider said. "You worked
hard and you fullfilled your dream." "I will bring you up to a higher class where we learn the basics of
flying."
"Thank you for fullfilling my dream, Ms. Glider."
