"The Old Trees"

There was a town picnic held in the spring of 1890. In a town called Meriwether. And the whole town would be there, and there would be games, contests, food, and a maypole!!! There was one girl in particular, her name was Mary Calloway.

It was a lovely park, but it got awfully hot in Spring and summer. So the mayor decided to plant trees. They all helped to plant the seeds for some large trees.

In the same town, Miss Abigale Calloway- Hathaway, who was 18, was with her friend, Suzy D. There she met Sam Johnston, and she fell in love. two years, later, they were married in the same park.

And many years later, on April 14, Mrs. Johnston had a baby girl. Her name was Elise. and Suzy (now H.) had a girl, named Ashleigh. the two friends would push the babies in strollers, all around the park.

The girls grew up, and the trees were still there. they would play hide and seek, and a swimming pool was built nearby for the town, so they were there often.

One year the town wanted to knock down the trees, and Elise formed a group to stop them. And since then, all her grandchildren have been to the park.

And the trees are still standing, the ones their great-great grandma helped to plant.
