there once was a cricket who belonged to a girl as a pet in Japan. He lived in a small metal cage. He sang all day. Crick, crik. This made the girl very happy.

One day the girl Ono, leaed over the cage. Look crick crick. We are haveing a Latern festaval and this is the one I made. See isn't it pretty?" She held up the brightly colored latern. "Crick, crick," he replied delighted.

Then she turned to hang up her lantern outside, his face fell. "I wish I could have a latern too." The ore he thought about it the sadder he became. He didn't feel like singing.

Later that night, everyone was dressed in his finest kimono and the laterns blazed with light. Music and laughter wafted on the air.

Crik, crik sat in his cage and sadly watched the festivities. As he looked, to his amazement it seemed as though one of the lamps flew off a line and came right to him! and landed right on his cage.

"Whoa, what are you?" he asked dumbfounded. "I'm a fire fly. How come you aren't singing your pretty song? I listen to you evryday. Everyone is having fun. Why are you sad?"

"I don't have a latern of my own," crik-crik replied. "oh, I'll be your latern," the fire fly said. "Really?" "Yeah." And the fire flies tail lit up brighter than ever.

"This calls for a song!" Crik-crik began to sing, merrier than he ever had in his life. "Would you like to dance with me firefly?" "Sure." and they danced arm and arm as new found friends.
