"Moon and Stars"
Story by Kristina, for Chelsea

"You better go to sleep as fast as the moon will carry you," Mother whispered as she tucked Chelsea into bed. She brought the pink-patched quilt to Chelsea's chin and softly kissed her forehead. Mother stood from the bed and walked to the door of Chelsea's room.

"'Night, Mom," Chelsea said, her eyes drooping.

As her mother turned off the light and closed the door, Chelsea noticed a small breeze. She quickly threw the blankets off and sat up in her bed. She gazed out the window at the moon.

"Hello, Moon," she whispered. She imagined that the moon spoke back.

Moon's eyes opened and looked down into the small house. "Hello, Chelsea!" a deep booming voice said. Chelsea laughed. He sounded like her grandpa. "Where have you been? I believe I haven't seen you for nearly days!"

"Oh, Moon, you're silly!"
"I do believe you're right. Well, I suppose you want to hear a story?"
"Yes, I do."
Moon looked thoughtful for a moment and then began his story . . .

There once lived a small girl who lived in the night sky. She had golden hair just like the stars and beautiful diamond eyes that sparkled like the stars. Her name was Rebecca. She was nearly sixteen years old when a young prince came to marry her. But alas, poor Rebecca did not want to leave the sky. She loved to look down at people sleeping and kiss their cheeks with her stardust to give them sweet dreams.

Before Rebecca knew what was happening, she had fallen in love with the prince. But her heart was torn between the stars and her prince. One day, the prince, seeing her despair and sadness over the sky, gave her a gift. The gift was the Moon. The prince promised that he would live on the Moon and she could stay in the stars. And that is how the Moon came to the stars.

The Moon finished his story. Chelsea looked up at the moon. "Does Rebecca still live in the stars?"
"Oh, no. But you can see her eyes in the sky sometimes."
"Thank you, Moon. I'm sleepy now. Good night, Moon."
"Good night, Chelsea."
