The Planet Mystery

Once on a faraway planet called Parlunika, two Parlunikans were looking at the stars and planets late at night. One of them (named Mosha) remarked thoughtfully to the other (named Lak) that she wondered whether there were other planets with life on them.

"Well,"replied Lak (this dialogue is translated to you from Parlunikan), "there might be. You never know."

"It IS fun to think about, though,"sighed Mosha happily.

But the days that passed for Mosha were not very happy. Things were utterly boring for her and she couldn't have much fun doing anything. And still every night she wondered: "Are there REALLY other planets and other creatures, or is it just my big imagination?"

One day, something happened that almost made her give up the whole idea. She was eating gidaa (dinner) when her jabbe (father) remarked, "Today I heard that the darwoe-bii (government) caught sight of another planet." Mosha's ears (Parlunikan beings have their ears where we have our feet) perked up. Could this be true?

"Nonsense,"her mother implied."Any fool would NEVER believe that."

"Just what I said to MYself when I heard it,"her father agreed.

Mosha then felt that her dreams were terminated, and went to bed feeling more unhappy than ever. As discouraged thoughts continued to flow throughout her head, she happened to look out the window, and it was lucky she did. For what she saw was nothing more nor less than a pair of eyes, looking out another window on a blue-green planet, and those eyes met her own. As for the rest of Mosha's life, it was happy and sucessful-and she never forgot the smile the alien girl gave her.
