Story by Chelsea, for Marta

"Ready for school,Mom," Kurt said.

"Good," said Mother. "But which face are you wearing?"

Kurt looked suprised. "I guess I'm wearing the only face i have," he answered.

"Well, there was another boy named Kurt running around the house beffore," said Mother. "I really couldn't tell who he was. He kept putting on different faces."

"What faces were they?" Kurt asked.

"When this other Kurt got up this morning, he put on his sunshine face," said Mother. "It had a big smile on it. that face was warm and friendly, like the sun shining."

"I . . . I guess I was glad to get up and get going," said Kurt.

Mother pretended that she didn't hear that the other Kurt was really her Kurt. "Then this Kurt boy couldn't find his shoes," Mother said. "Suddenly he put on a pickle face. You should have seen it! It was long and sour and green, just like a pickle." Mother giggled. Kurt frowned. He didn't like to think that he had a long, sour green face.

"Oh yes," Mother went on. "That other Kurt put on a frown face, something like the one that you're wearing now. That's because he had to go to school. You should have seen him."

"What other faces did this other Kurt wear?" asked Kurt.

"Let's see," said Mother. "There was a raindrop face. That's when he cried becuase he had to clean up his room a little. Oh, yes. There was also a pumpkin face. It was like a happy-go-lucky jack-o-lantern face. It was really nice."

"Mom, you do know that I was the other Kurt, don't you?" Kurt asked.

"Oh,my," said Mother. "I'm glad you told me. But haven't told me what face you will wear to school."

Kurt laughed. "I'll wear my own face," he said. But I hope it's like the sunshine face."

"It is already!" said Mother. She smiled as she watched Kurt and his sunshiny face run toward school.

By the way . . . which face are you wearing today?
