Margaret walked down the street. "Ahhh," she sighed. She turned the corner on Elm and Belair. She had had a long day at school, and she always had to walk home. This was her favorite part of the whole city. There was a beautiful meadow to one side and houses on the other.
When she got home, she realized her mother was their. For the next two days, the world was a daze for Margaret. She couldn't think of anything else besided the street. Then, one day, she was walking home when she saw a bunch of workpeople. The mayor was standing there, hold a shovel. "And now," he announced, "I will break ground." He was about to dig the shovel into the ground when someone screamed very, very, very, very, very loudly. Margaret realized that it was her. Her face turned as red as the flowers that grew in the meadow. But that din't stop her."Hi Mom," Margaret greeted her.
"Hi, sweet," her mom replied. "Did you hear about Elm and Belair?"
"What about it?" asked Margaret, heading for her room. She dropped her backpack on her bed.
"Oh, they're taking it out," explained Margaret's mother.
"WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHATTTTTTT???" Margaret screeched to a halt. "For what? Expansion of the meadow?"
"No, of course not. Condos, what else?"
"Condos?" Margaret repeated incredulously.
"Please don't!" she pleaded.Margaret could not believe what had happened. The next day, she and many others waited at city hall, eager that their request was to be fullfilled. The mayor was standing on stage, holding an envelope. "And," he announced, "we will be..." he paused dramatically as he opened the envelope, "leaving the street and Lewis Meadow as they are now!" Some people started clapping. Maragret and some others breathed sighs of relief."Why, little girl?" asked Mayor Jeminson.
"Because I love this place," Margaret explained. "Me too," echoed a few onlookers.
"Well, what do you want?" the mayor questioned.
"We just want you to leave the meadow and street," Margaret explaimed.
"Well, little girl, we'll hold a vote. Everybody vote by tomorrow!" the mayor shouted to the people.
Just goes to show you, you can do anything, with help from a little outburst.
