Story by Kathleen, for Sonny

It was Christmas eve at my house. My dad had set the Christmas tree up and Mom and I had decorated it. It looked really pretty with all the lights, ornaments, and the shiny star on top. I wanted to bring my pet hampster out to see the tree. I went up to my room to get her. I opened up the lid of her cage and reached in to get her out. I strocked her for a second and then scooped her up into my hand. I gently carried her to the family room where we had our tree. She did not seem to notice it
"Mom," I whined," She isn't looking."

"Put her on the ground and maybe she'll notice it, but keep a good eye on her so she doesn't get lost."

"O.K. Mom," I said.

At fist I was very vigilant. I wached and watched. Soon I got bored. I stared at the star and began to daydream. When I looked bak for my hampster, she wasn't there!

"Mom," I yelled, "I can't find my hapster anywhere."

We searched and searched, and we couldn't find her. I was very sad. My younger brother came in the room and we told him. He didn't show much sympathy.

He sat down to shake his presents for the millionth time. I was sitting dejectedly on the couch staring at the fireplace.

My brother suddenly pipped up, "Were you looking for this?" he asked.
It was my hapster! I was very happy to have found her. I let her play under my close watch a little longer. Then I took her back to my room and put her in her cage. I got ready for bed, tomorrow was Christmas!
