お話：エイプリル　絵：ソフィー

ある日のこと、アマンダという女の子が森におさんぽをしにでかけました。今まで見たことのない大きな池をみつけたアマンダは不思議に思いました。「この池はどこからきたのかしら？今まで見たこともないわ。この森には何度も来ているのに！」そしてアマンダは大きな声で「あの池で泳ごうっと！」とさけびました。くびをふりふりながら、そんなことをするべきなのかどうかアマンダはまよいました。だんだんアマンダは近づいていくと、ついに池のところまでやってきました。期待で心をはずませながらアマンダはつま先を水の中にいれました。でも何も起こりません。アマンダはためいきをひとつつくと池の中にはいっていきました。しばらく泳いでからアマンダは水からあがりお昼寝をすることにしました。

目をさましてアマンダはあたりを見回しました。そこは今まで一度もあじわったことのない気持ちのよいベッドの上でした！アマンダがさっと起きあがると大きなドアがあるのに気がつきました。ベッドからピョンととびおりるとアマンダはドアのところにいきました。何度も、何度も、そのドアをあけようとしましたがぜんぜんあきません。アマンダがあきらめかけていたちょうどその時です。変わったか細い声がきこえてきました。アマンダはとてもこわくなってふりかえることができませんでした。その声がいうままにアマンダはじっと耳をそばだてていると......

「そこの女の子、何をしているの？」
アマンダは答えませんでした。
「そこの女の子、何をしているの？」とまたその声がいいました。

アマンダは身動きひとつしませんでした。小さな足音がアマンダに近づいてきます。アマンダはもうたえられなくなってくるりっとふりかえると、何とそこに立っていたのは足ほどの大きさもない小人でした。夢をみているんだわ...とアマンダは思いましたがそれはとても真実味をおびていました！

「こわがらないで。何にもしないから。」と小人はちかよってきていいました。そして「ティー．ビスケットはいかがですか？」とたずねました。

アマンダがうなづくと、二人は大広間をおりていき、小さなテーブルのところにつきました。そのお茶はとてもおいしいものでした。ずっとここにいられたらいいのに...とアマンダは思いました。アマンダはその小人、あるいは妖精というのかもしれませんが、の名前がルイスターということをしりました。そしてアマンダはルイスターに自己紹介をし、二人は楽しい時を過ごしました。ところがルイスターはまた例の変わった声で「もうそろそろお家に帰らなきゃいけないころだね、アマンダ。」というのです。アマンダはしばらくじっとすわったままでしたが、ついに「そのようね。」と答えました。ルイスターはアマンダが目をさました部屋に案内していくと、アマンダにむかって「眠って...」といいました。ベッドに横になり頭が枕にふれたと思った瞬間、アマンダはすぐに眠りに落ちていきました。でもアマンダがそうなる前にルイスターがいいました。「ぼくたち、また会おうね。」

目をさましたアマンダは前に眠りこんでしまった場所にいました。でも起きあがって見ると池は消えてなくなっていました。アマンダはお家に帰り、秘密は自分の胸の中だけにとどめ、家族のみんなにはいわずにいました。今日でもまだアマンダはまたルイスターに会えると信じています。

One day a girl named Amanda went walking in the forest. She saw a big pond she had never seen before. She wondered,"Where did that pond come from? I have never seen it before,and I have been in these woods many times!" Amanda said in a loud voice " I am going to go SWIM in that pond!" She was shaking, and wondering if she should do this. She kept getting closer and closer, Finally she reached it. She put her toe in the water expecting soemthing to happened. Nothing did. She sighed, and started to get in. She swam for awhile, and then got out , and decided to take a nap.
Amanda woke up and looked around her. She was in a palace in the most comfortable bed she had ever slept in! She sat up quickly and she saw a very big door. She got off the bed, and went to the door. She tried , and tried a, and tried to open it, but it would not open. When Amanda was about ready to give up she heard a strange little voice. She did not turn her head because she was much to scared. She just listen to the voice as it said......

" Little girl, what are you doing?"
Amanda did not answer.
He said it again. "Little girl what are you doing?"

She did not even move. Amanda heard small footsteps coming toward her. She could not stand it another minute. She turned aroun, and there stood a little man no bigger then a foot. Amanda knew she must be dreaming, but it seemed so real!

The little man came toward and said,"Do not be frighted, I will not harm you." He said would you like to have some tea biscutes?

Amanda shook her head as a nod, and they stared going down this grand hall until they got to a very small table. The tea was very good, and Amanda wished she could stay forever. She leared the little man's or elf's name was Luister. She told him her name was Amanda. They had a joyous time, but then Luister said in his strange voice, " I think it is time for you darling to go home." She sat for awhile then she said ,"I guess it is." The little elf took her to the room she had woken up in, and said, "Go to sleep." Amanda layed down and as soon as her head touched the pillow she went to sleep. But before she did she heard the little man say, "We shall meet again."
When she woke up she was on the spot she had gone to sleep on. But when she sat up she saw the pond was gone. She went home, and never told her family ,but kept it all to herself. Even to this day she still thinks about meeting that little man again.
