One day, a young pear named Fran got bored of sitting in the tree everday, watching the kids play. She decided to have an adventure.

She asked her mother if she could go down and explore. But all she did was shake her head and say, "Fran, you are too much young. Besides, the world is full of danger. It is safer up here in the tree."

Fran was angry at this response, of course. When her mother wasn't looking, she wiggled and wiggled until she finally fell down. Luckily, she fell on a pile of grass. Brushing the dirt of her surface, she began to walk and explore the neighborhood.

She had only gone a few steps when a little boy named Joey saw her. He screamed and pointed at her. "It's a walking pear!" he shrieked. His mother shook her head. "Nonesense! You've been having a little too much sun," she said and dragged him in the house.

"This is fun! Mother was wrong," Fran said happily. She sat down and watched two girls playing tennis.

Suddenly, the neighborhood bully, Mark came running by. He saw Fran. Unfortunately, he was very hungry and happened to see Fran sitting down. He licked his lips hungrily.

"Lunch is served," he said menancingly. Fran shook in fear.

Suddenly, she saw her mother and two bird friends swat Mark off. Feathers were getting in his eyes which made him hard to see. Even worse, he was able to peep through a small hole and saw Fran walk away with her mother! He screamed and ran but with the feathers covering his eyes, he didn't see the rock until he tripped on it. Then he brushed the birds and ran off.

"I'm sorry for disobeying you mother," Fran said. "I'll never disobey you again."
